PM RESHUFFLES CABINET
Ministers of Social Development and Small Business Development have been
released from office.
According to a press release from the office of the Government
Secretary, Mr. Molahlehi Letlotlo, a member of the Lesotho People's
Congress (LPC) and Mrs. Mantoetsi Mohatonyane, former Lesotho Congress
for Democracy (LCD) have been relieved of their duties as ministers.
It further stated that in line with section 87 (7) (d) of the
constitution of Lesotho, His Majesty King Letsie III with the advice of
the Prime Minister, Dr Pakalitha Mosisili has released the ministers
from the Cabinet following a decision made by their political parties to
request the government to fire them.
The Government Secretary, Ms. Lebohang Ramohlanka has confirmed the news
but said the Prime Minister does not have to mention the reasons behind
the move except those of the parties mentioned on the press release.
Responding to the news, Mr. Letlotlo said he has not received a letter
of dismissal and he did not want to speculate on why he has been fired.
Mrs. Mohatonyane said she was verbally informed about the decision but
said she was uncomfortable relating the reasons behind her dismissal.
In the past two weeks, there has been speculation about Mrs. Mohatonyane
defecting to Movement for Economic Change (MEC), a party formed by Mr.
Selibe Mochoboroane, former Secretary General of the LCD and a Minister
of Small Business Development.
Mr. Letlotlo was unseated from his party leadership by a court order
following an application by one faction of his party, which he
challenged. The case will be heard on Thursday.
